Global Matrix 5.0 has started in the Basque Country

author: Neritzel Albisua,
We are very excited to announce that we have launched the Global Matrix 5.0 project in the Basque Country! The main objective of this initiative is to know the level of physical activity of children and adolescents and to promote strategies for its promotion. The project is led by Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA).
The project foresees the creation of reports called “Report Cards” in each territory. These reports detail the physical activity status through the analysis of indicators such as general physical activity, organized sport, active transportation, sedentary behavior and physical condition, among others. Here you can visit the report we completed in the last edition.
The data collection and analysis, which is done to ensure a comprehensive approach, takes into account the contributions of different agents: families, schools, universities, community and public institutions.
However, several challenges will have to be overcome in order to carry out the project. The main priority is the use of standardized indicators and the collection of solid evidence for reliable and objective territorial comparisons. It is also essential to encourage the participation of undervalued and vulnerable populations and to develop effective data-based policies. Furthermore, it is important to ensure the continuity in time of the project to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and to take steps to promote positive health-related changes.
In the Basque Country, this project has a notable singularity: it is based on partnership. It is a pioneering initiative that is developed in close collaboration between the Basque Government and the four universities of the territory.
The participating team members are the following:
Neritzel Albisua, lecturer and researcher at Mondragon University and leader of the project in the Basque Country.
Arkaitz Larrinaga, lecturer and researcher at the University of Deusto.
Ilargi Gorostegi y Juan Aldaz, lecturer and researchers at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).
Aitor Martínez de Aguirre, lecturer and researcher at the University of Vitoria-Gasteiz (EUNEIZ).
Mikel Bringas, sports manager of the Basque Government.
Thanks to this collaboration, the Basque Country will have the opportunity to take significant steps to participate in international projects and promote physical activity in basque children and youth.
In the next months we will continue to share information on the progress made.
Many thanks to those who are participating in this project!
